Asparagus Soup

This asparagus soup recipe is incredibly good for you. It combines asparagus, snow peas, and spinach with a pesto sauce and Parmesan cheese to make a very satisfying soup.
1 pound    asparagus cut into 1" pieces  
1/2 cup    chopped onion  
3 cloves    minced garlic  
1 Tbs    olive oil  
6 cups    reduced sodium chicken broth  
1/2 cup    dried orzo or other tiny pasta  
3 cups    snow peas  
6 cups    torn spinach  
1/4 tsp    pepper  
1/4 cup    pesto  
1/4 cup    Parmesan cheese  

1 Place 1 Tablespoon olive oil in large soup pan and saute onion and garlic until tender.
2 Add chicken broth to soup pan and bring to a boil.
3 Stir in pasta and reduce heat to a gentle boil for 5 minutes.
4 Stir in asparagus and snow peas. Return soup to a boil for 3 minutes.
5 Stir in spinach and pepper. Cook 1 minute more.
6 Remove soup from heat and ladle into a bowl.
7 Add 1 to 2 teaspoons pesto into each bowl of soup.
8 Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the top of each serving.
